Examination Board :  Edexcel Logo  BTEC Logo

Assessment Requirements:
There will be four assessed units taken over the Key Stage 4 course. Three of these units are assessed through coursework submissions, and one unit is assessed through an exam. Each unit is worth 25% of the final grade.

Course Outline:

Throughout the course, pupils will study the following four units:

  • Enterprise in the Business World - Explore the basics of business, and then create a business plan for a new business idea.
  • Finance for Business - Study the necessity for finance documents in the Business world.
  • Promoting a Brand - Explore how brands advertise, and create your own promotion for a given business.
  • Sales and Personal Selling - Study and develop the skills needed for becoming a strong salesperson.

Year 9 will focus on building study skills, understanding key Business concepts and practice sessions for assessments. Years 10 and 11 will focus on each unit in turn, drawing on skills and knowledge developed in Year 9.

Home learning will be set every week. This will include case studies, exam-style questions and research tasks.

Career Opportunities:
Business Studies pushes pupils to consider the wider world around them, and think about the impact developments have on each other. This will aid in any career path, and can allow quick progression within businesses. Pupils with a qualification in Business can expect managerial positions, and will have a better idea of how self-employment works. Many pupils also go on to study Business Studies at Key Stage 5 and University.
